Pharmacological properties
Albendazole is an anthelmintic from the benzimidazole group with a broad spectrum of activity. Albendazole affects the energy metabolism of helminths. It inhibits fumarate reductase synthesis, leading to a reduction in glycogen levels, which results in parasite death due to exhaustion.
Albendazole-L 10% is a broad-spectrum drug intended for the treatment of animals with parasitic diseases caused by gastrointestinal and pulmonary nematodes (roundworms), cestodes (tapeworms), and trematodes (flukes).
The bioavailability of Albendazole-L 10% is low. The time to reach maximum concentration of albendazole sulfoxide is 2–5 hours. It binds to plasma proteins at 70%.
The drug is excreted via bile through the intestines as the active metabolite albendazole sulfoxide, with only a small amount excreted in urine.
