Opticef tablets – 400 mg №14 (7×2) (cefixime)
Antibacterial
J01DD08 Antibacterial agents for systemic use. Beta-lactam antibiotics. Third-generation cephalosporins.
- Upper respiratory tract infections (including otitis media) and other upper respiratory tract infections (sinusitis, pharyngitis, bacterial tonsillitis) in cases of known or suspected pathogen resistance to other commonly used antibiotics, or in cases where treatment efficacy is at risk;
- Lower respiratory tract infections (including acute bronchitis and exacerbation of chronic bronchitis);
- Urinary tract infections (including cystitis, cystourethritis, uncomplicated pyelonephritis).
Pharmacological Properties
Opticef is an antibacterial preparation containing cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic for oral use. In vitro, it demonstrates significant bactericidal activity against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms.
It is clinically effective in treating infections caused by the most common pathogenic microorganisms, including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, E. coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella species, Haemophilus influenzae (both beta-lactamase-positive and beta-lactamase-negative), Branhamella catarrhalis (both beta-lactamase-positive and beta-lactamase-negative), and Enterobacter species. It exhibits high stability in the presence of beta-lactamases.
Dosage and Administration
Food intake does not affect the absorption of cefixime. Typically, the treatment course lasts 7 days, and if necessary, up to 14 days. For the treatment of uncomplicated cystitis, the course duration is 3 days.
Adults and children aged 12 years and above with a body weight over 50 kg: The recommended dose is 400 mg (one tablet) once daily or 200 mg (half a tablet) every 12 hours, depending on the severity of the disease.
Elderly patients: The medication should be prescribed at the recommended adult dosage. Renal function should be monitored, and the dosage adjusted in cases of severe renal impairment (see “Renal Impairment”).
Renal Impairment: Cefixime can be used in patients with renal dysfunction. For patients with a creatinine clearance of 20 ml/min or higher, the usual dose and dosing regimen should be administered. For patients with a creatinine clearance below 20 ml/min, the dose should not exceed 200 mg (half a tablet) once daily. This recommendation also applies to patients undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis.
Pediatrics
Children under 12 years of age are advised to use the medication in a different dosage form.
